PRESS RELEASE
The greatest procurement win by Hansa Bussiliinid! We will be servicing the public bus routes of Tartu County, starting 1 July 2023.
On 6 April 2022, Hansa Bussiliinid AS and the Tartu County Public Transport Centre signed a contract to service public bus routes in Tartu county. The service will be provided from 1 July 2023. The contract will be valid for five years and three months.
In order to fulfil the contract, Hansa Bussiliinid will launch 63 new environmentally friendly Iveco buses running on biodiesel. The investment is worth 10 million euros. The new contract will increase the distance covered by our company’s lines by 4.3 million kilometres a year.
All the buses are equipped with USB ports, security cameras, GPS-systems, stop buttons for passengers to announce their wish to exit and electronic boards including an audiovisual notification system so that the travel routes are easily viewable for passengers on the buses and at the bus stops. The buses have low floors and wide doors which will enable people with wheelchairs or with prams to enter comfortably. In addition, there are buttons for wheelchair users to request the use of the ramp to the bus driver.
The director of Tartu County Public Transport Centre Maiki Aunapuu says that the introduction of bicycle racks on some longer routes that will allow passengers to take their bicycles on the bus and then continue travelling with them at their destination is a useful innovation. The presence of the racks will be noted in the timetables of the respective routes and those who are interested will have the possibility to book a place for their bicycle in advance. The service will be provided from spring to autumn.
Andres Puskar, member of the management board at Hansa Bussiliinid, notes that the contract to service the public routes of Tartu county has the largest amount of route kilometres of any contract in Estonia and in order to fulfil it we will be expecting 100 new employees to join us.
“We are happy to have signed this new cooperation agreement with the Tartu County Public Transport Centre, so that together we can take public transport to a new and environmentally conscious level,” added Puskar.
